The growing political momentum behind healthy ageing and longevity policies in Europe has received international media attention, with Longevity.Technology reporting on the European Parliament conference held on October 1, 2026.

Hosted by MEP Valentina Palmisano and organized by the Longevity Policies Association (LPA) together with the International Longevity Alliance (ILA), the conference brought together policymakers, European Commission representatives, Members of Parliament, researchers and longevity advocates to discuss the need for a more coordinated European approach to healthy ageing.

Europe has been planning for an older population for decades; it has been rather slower to ask whether aging itself might be open to negotiation. Pension liabilities and the long tail of chronic disease have been modeled and costed in Brussels many times over, while the biology driving them has stayed politely outside the room. Geroscience offers a way in, though the distance between a promising mouse study and a reimbursable intervention is considerable, and prevention is far easier to applaud from a podium than to write into a national health budget.

The discussion addressed several priorities, including greater investment in geroscience, the integration of longevity medicine into preventive healthcare, and stronger coordination between European institutions and Member States.
